What can you tell from a web site?  I helped transport four cats to a rescuer -- I met her in a city other than where she lived.  The cats were supposed to live there temporarily.  One died in the two months it was there of unknown causes, the other three all came back sick with some sort of infection.  It took several months to get them back to health.  It turns out the woman had over 50 cats in a small house and no job.  When the cats' went to pick them up (and learned then that one of the cats had died), she was appalled at the conditions she found.  None of the people who had dealt with this woman on the internet would have suspected a problem.

You really can't tell anything from a web site besides they have a nice web site.  That says nothing about the conditions of the cats.  I can't imagine any sanctuary being so secretive.  Visitors are a great source of contributions.  There are "cat collectors" out there who come across as really nice people -- they call themselves rescuers.  How can anyone tell if this is a cat collector or not if she won't allow people to visit except a few selected days out of the year?  What makes me additionally nervous is that she's in Tennessee, a state known for not being particularly careful in its care of animals.  That state is full of terrible pounds (remember the one that had the chute that people could drop unwanted animals in over the weekend and at night?) and terrible puppy mills.  I think some questions are in order.

Right - they may have more the ability and personality to deal with the cats but not with too many "Tourists".   They've got a nice web site, seem caring.  Gloria

maybe it's more a case of not enough staff to deal with "tourists" or looky
lou's --I know at the local shelter they get alot of moms with bored kids
who want to come play with the kittens and puppies and have no intention of
adopting.  still you gotta be nice to people because maybe they will adopt,
maybe they'll bring food next visit, maybe...maybe ...maybe...
(i'm not saying someone wanting to bring a felv+ cat is a tourist. just that
it still is a disruption in schedules and pulling a staff member away from
duties...)
maybe also they know how stressful it is to the animals...
just trying to look for the nice in people today because i am ready to
strangle some morons on the animals board on ebay who are whining why wont'
shelters let them adopt and declaw cats rather than euthanizing them???!!!!
