Hi Lora,

Meechie is doing much better since her seizure. Thank you so much for
asking about her.

She is still losing weight (off feed) and her coat looks terribly unthrifty,
but we are hoping she can pull through this completely. Her blood work
showed high glucose (possible diabetes), but a follow up blood test and
urinalysis a week later ruled it out. Her liver values are up a bit and a
few other values are off just a hair, but nothing really abnormal being that
she is an older cat (16-yrs.). Nothing really stood out on the panel or on
her x-ray. So, still no answer as to what was the cause of her seizure.

I'm think my "grandma cat" may have just passed a blood clot in her brain.
Is that possible?

The vet is considering monthly depo shots. But I know there are some side
effects from Depo, so I'm still debating on whether to go ahea! d with them.
Any advice?

Denise

Denise,

Sweety, have not heard from you in awhile and I was
wondering how Meechie was doing.

Last I heard, she was experienceing possible seizue
attacks. Have you found a better, more concerned and
caring veterinarian? Is she on any type of medication?

Just wanted to let you know that you are being thought
of. Wishing Meechie the best. Take care.

Hello my friends,

Advice please...

My oldest cat, Meechie, who is 16-yr old, negative,
and typically very healthy had either a stroke or a
seizure yesterday. Scared the crap out of me
figuratively speaking and out of her...literally! She
collasped on her way to the litter box, ! panting
heavily, tongue out, eyes flickering back and
forth. My son found her in this condition. We rushed
her to the emergency vet (a new one), who did the
"Well, she's 16-yrs old and there appears
to be neurological damage (her eyes were still
flickering and she could not stand), and quality of
life is the real issue and the kindess thing would be
to PTS!!"

I was so pissed. I told the doc, that I KNEW ALL
THAT and didn't need a $150 an hour emergency clinic
to tell me that. I was there to see if there was
anything they could DO for her! I asked if the
flickering in her eyes would stop? I asked if her
neurological system could restablize and her motor
skill restored. I know that human stroke/seizure
victims can recover. But he said no, she wouldn't
recover and all he could do would be to give her a
steriod shot for inflammation.

So, I said, Okay, give her the shot. Then he gave me a
stupid look and said, "D! on't you want to think this
over first?" As in, "don't you think you should just
put her down!" Know how you can tell what they are
really saying?!

Anyway, I was crying and emotional (as usual, but even
more so because I've had Meechie longer that I've had
kids - my oldest son is 15) and she was a present from
my now ex-husband given to me on our wedding day. She
even went on my honeymoon with me!
HA! Maybe that's why we're divorced (jk), but I just
couldn't leave her behind.

Anyway, everyone around me (family, friend, boyfrien,
the vet) told me to PTS, but her eyes told me, "No
Mom,not yet!". So I took her home.

This morning she got up and walked to the kitchen!
Hooray. Her eyes are no longer flickering. (Screw you,
doc!) She seems somewhat disoriented, but ate a little
bit of wet food on her own, which I supplemented with
a KMR/baby food mush mixture by syringe.

Now what? Has anyone had this type of ! experience. Is
she now prone to more seizures? Other than her age,
what could have caused the seizure? Any advice?

Denise
