Re salt/bacon I can confirm that several vets suggest the occasional tiny addition of salt to encourage drinking, and of course bacon is (a) tasty and (b) human food (which makes it, for many cats, highly appealing!
Like you say, once in a while, it cannot do any harm. They deserve all the pleasure they can get, especially if they have shown positive. Colin
