Kudos to you for caring and trying to do something about the irresponsibility of others. If we could just convince all those soft-hearted people who insist on feeding feral cats (but do nothing about spay/neuter) that they are merely helping to perpetuate the problem. I know how hard it is to see hungry kittys and not want to feed them, but if you aren't willing to go the extra mile to try and trap, alter and rerelease (or find homes for those who becomoe friendly enough) you just keep them living and breeding.
We have an ongoing problem with feral cats in the wooded area around the stable where I board my two horses. I have managed to trap and get altered a number of them, but there are still a lot more out there. It gets so discouraging sometimes. Most of the kittens end up as raccoon fodder. So many people seem to think cats can fend for themselves, and many do, but the life of a feral cat is not an easy one and songbird populations suffer from their predation...wish they could just stick to catching mice and bugs. One has to stay positive and focus on the few lives that can be saved and not be heartbroken about the ones that can't be. Keep on trapping and doing your part to lessen the suffering of unwanted feral cats by making sure fewer of them are born! Sally in San Jose
