Hi Amber,
Yes, at this point whatever she will eat is the top priority. Suzie-Q would only eat Whiskas pouch food when she was really failing, so that's what she got. And, her Whiskas treats. She had to eat and it's more important that they eat SOMETHING, but I know how frustrating it is.
The Rena-Food I was talking about is not a food, but a supplement. I found out about it on the CRF list. It's used by people with kidney problems and can be used for animals, too. It's something that Dr. Hofve also talked about when she was a guest on the Holisticat list.
I know what you mean, about trying to figure it all out with CRF; the protein load, but then you read something else that says, well a small amount of high quality protein is better and you try a million things and settle on the one that kitty will accept. Did they mention a phosphate binder for Tiffanie? I used one that had to be ordered from Canada (Alternal-gel or something like that) which is just a human antacid but it's not sold in this country any more. She hated it, she hated getting fluids, and after torturing her for a couple of weeks, I decided to give her what she would accept, and she would eat the Rena-Food crushed into the gravy of the Whiskas. Since she was getting only that for treatment so I really think it did help her. I can't remember but I think the CRF list has archives and I think they also have a page that lists the places who have the lowest prices on supplies and there is a link for Rena-Food. One note, they have !
come out
with a veterinary formula, but a number of people who switched to that said their cats didn't like it (must taste different) and Dr. Hofve said she had found that, too, and just went back to using the regular human formula.
Hope this helps!!
Julie
