Gloria,
I'm so sorry you lost your Mittens too. It sounds like he went very peacefully and for that you can always be thankful. I know he's left a hole in your heart. Hugs to you and Calawalla.

Another sweet FELV kitty - Mittens - has now gone to the Rainbow
Bridge (12/18/2003). He left about 4:30 this morning, Thursday
December 18, 2003, only a few days after Tonya's Mittens. He came to
me from Susan, his rescue mom, the 1st of December last year.
After my Mr. Black Kitty died on Nov 18, 2002, Susan brought several
FELV kitties over for Calawalla to meet. Cala chose Mittens (a boy,
please note). Mitts came to console Calawalla and entertain and
enthrall everyone. A sweeter kitty I have never seen (and tolerant
of Calawalla's uppity behavior). He had a wonderful, innocent,
playful, loveable disposition, and there were many great play-fights.
I would have done anything I could to keep him around.
As I recall, Mitts was rescued from a trailer park in central
Arkansas. He and Cala became fast friends, much chasing a! bout the
house and playing. I have wonderful pictures
(photos.yahoo.com/gblane1). He has brothers and sisters who are
still around, with Susan I think, and look a lot like him.
He was diagnosed with mediastinal lymphoma the first of August 2003,
and given 2-3 months to live. I'm delighted that he chose to add a
couple of months to that estimate. He had chemotherapy for 2-3
months, and various alternative therapies - ozone, homeopathy, herbs,
acupuncture, and so on. When his fur was analyzed this fall, it
showed a high lead content. Also, he had some negative reactions to
the Vincristine - breakouts on the skin, for example. His illness
progressed to some other cancer, I'm not sure what.
He drifted away gently, this morning in my bedroom, in front of the
heater. We knew for several days that he was checking out. He had a
nice visit with Susan yesterday, and in the days before that. He
loved hearing Susan come in and ca! ll him Mittsy-boom and he'd lift
his head and look when he heard her. And it was only last night that
I sat watching TV with him and stroking his silky gray tiger fur.
He taught me a lot, and I see him shining in every star in the sky.
Cala, Shakespeare, Nicky, Vixon (woof), Ladybug (woof) and I will
miss him. I know Mr. Black Kitty will be there at the Bridge for
him, showing him the way...
