I
don't post very often, but do read all the mail. I was interested in
reading the notes from several of you about adopting ferals. I've also had
that experience.
About
9 years ago, we started feeding a mama & 3 kittens under our van in the
yard. That progressed to feeding them on our deck. I'm not sure what
happened to one of the kittens, but we managed to trap mama & the other 2
kittens & had them spayed & neutered. That was an experience
having Mama Kitty locked in our spare bathroom for 2 weeks. She was not a
happy kitty. Finally, after a few years she came to trust us & would
come in the house & allow us to pet her. Unfortunately, we lost her
about 2.5 years ago to what the vet called a liver tumor. She was fine one
evening & the next morning she was gone.
Her 2
boys, named Click & Clack (after the Tappet brothers on NPR's Car Talk) are
still with us after 9 years. We can touch & scratch on Click &
even pick him up a little. His brother, Clack however won't let us touch
more than the tip of his tail. He's trusting & will come in the house,
but he's not into touching.
They're precious & seem healthy. I'm not sure how we'll handle
the situation if one ever needs vet care. Guess we'll have to trap them
& haul them in.
Anyway, just wanted to share that experience.
