Subject: OT: Sophie has run into difficulty

Hi everyone,
Sophie became clogged again, her rear end full and protruding with fecal material, just like before surgery but not as bulging as before surgery, anyway. She had been eating canned, only, mixed with mackerel juice and a bit of pumpkin, along with the full original dose of lactulose three times a day, but this still happened. I have given her 3 enemas since yesterday but nothing much comes out. It seems to be stuck in a pocket on the right to the anus, where Dr. Stanley did a repair job in addition to building the anus. She has been vomitting and not feeling well but the enemas do seem to help with that, anyway.

I have been in contact with Dr. Stanley by email and she asked me to bring Sophie in tomorrow to MSU where they will lightly sedate her, take some x-rays and give a warm water enema to clear her. Dr. Stanley has wondered if there is nerve damage or maybe she has developed megacolon since surgery or maybe she has a problem further up in the small bowel. Here is what she wrote yesterday:
"Because she has had trauma to her rectum and anus, she may have some residual neurologic deficit to her cranial rectum and/or colon. If she continues, then email me again. I would rely on the enemas if she is straining, but not for long term. Pumpkin is a great idea, great stool softener, if you can get it into her."

I am quite worried but confident that Dr. Stanley will try to fix what is wrong.

I will send an update after her visit to MSU tomorrow, OK?

Thanks for being there, once again,
Sophie sends purrs,
Anne
