We ran into the same problem with Leo…if
I recall, the kidneys excrete a hormone that alerts the bone marrow to produce
red blood cells…hence, Epogen’s helpfulness
with CRF related anemia…I guess it makes sense that once an FeLV kitty’s
bone marrow is destroyed, Epogen is of little use…but
like Jo said, if the anemia is due to something other than the virus attacking
the bone marrow, then Epogen might come in handy! Jen -----Original Message----- Hi Jo, We used procrit for both Moon and Blue. It wasn't
helpful to either of them. That was because their anemia was being caused by
the Felv having destroyed their bone marrow. My understanding is that procrit
does help Felv+ kitties who have anemia for other reasons or who still have
some functioning bone marrow. The only way to know for sure is to do a bone
marrow biopsy, so it may be easier just to try it, and see if it helps. Karen
