My cat Josephine had a terrible reaction to a fentanyl patch. A vet put it on her because she thought her intestinal lymphoma might be causing pain, but the patch made me think she was dying. she was so nauseaus that she laid flat on her stomach with her head behind the toilet, would not eat or drink, and lookd half dead. We eventually thought it might be the patch and took it off, and within an hour she started improving. I think it took her about 12 hours or so to completely throw it off, but we also gave her some steroids that I think perked her up. We looked on the internet to see the possibl side effects of fentanyl and that is what convinced us to take it off her. At this point I do not remember what I read other than that it can cause nausea. I would look it up and see how long the effects might last.
I think part of the problem is that they use the same patch on all cats and dogs up to 25 pounds. Josephine was 8 pounds or so. It is such a strong drug that I think it needs to be dosed more specifically. Michelle
