I was fascinated by the comments on ferals being silent. We adopted a feral kitten three years ago and she never miawoed. Only in the last year does she occasionally pipe up (mostly when playing).
Perhaps ferals learn early on that they need to be quiet and not draw attention to themselves in order to survive.
