I just thought I'd share some test results with the lists in the interest of research.
We have 4 cats that have all been tested for FELV using all the different tests. We saw one housecall vet who recommended DNA (PCR) testing. 3 out of 4 tested positive on DNA but when tested again 2 of those 3 tested negative both Elisa and IFA (twice, 6 months apart). Sadly one of our cats is positive Elisa/IFA and DNA. The Elisa/IFA tests were repeated twice six months apart. Luckily our others remain negative. They are vaccinated but not separated. I wanted to share all this because it seems even vets don't have enough info on this disease. I hope more research is done on this horrible disease. My positive is healthy so far but it is heartbreaking to read of all the cats who suffer so much from this.
