Sorry, caught the tail end of this conversation. I am not sure who originally posted this problem since the topic was about sanctuaries and then I saw about spraying.
Does the cat have chronic flutd? I had a cat that cleared up but she had a higher level of something. I was giving vitamin c so the vet said maybe it was that. This foster continued to spray her and there. It has taken me over 2 1/2 year to finally find what calmed her down and be "normal" for her. Also cleaning the area where she went is important. I used feliway spray after I cleaned. I like foster and smith cat detergent works wonders for the smell if you can toss in the laundry. Other then that I use "Get Serious" and then spayed the area when cleaned with feliway. The feliway plug in didn't help her the others seemed happy but not her she still sprayed. One thing I found is her problem happened mostly early am like 5:00 she wanted to be with me on the bed and the other cats she was jealous so she would mark. She eats in a cage and now sleeps at night in the cage. I used this cage for other cats awhile ago and she sprayed I found that to her that was her cage so as long as she sleeps in that cage and no one else she is happy. She is on Hills diet for urinary problems. She gets no dry but i give her a few pieces here and there. I also give her a teaspoon of wet food (anything other than her food) I add some water in it and she is so happy. I also give her Emergency Remedy. This is like rescue but I think it has a better effect. She get now only one drop once a day i use to use it 2x. I also mix Solid Gold Berry mix in her SD food. All this has seemed to help and stop the problem. I would let her stay in the cellar as her safety zone. I would try the Emergency and see how she handles the upstairs thing during the times you are home. But let her stay downstairs when she is by herself of access maybe just for her to go down (a door maybe for her only) The downstairs to me seems like this is "her property" so this is her space and space only to her. Have you checked her again for the urine problem? Carla
