Michelle, I understand totally. I'm really into alternative treatment, but have had that experience with online/phone consult - you get a ton of herbs or whatever , without good insight into how to integrate it into the existing treatment - prednisone or whatever. I feel the strong need to have a nearby vet I can take my kitty to, who'll look, feel, use that kind of judgement. I've about decided I'd rather have a good compassionate conventional vet near by, than a vet far away. If I have a crisis, who's going to be there? Sometimes I just feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place (as my mother used to say).

It's that way for my own health care too. I get acupuncture regularly, and use herbs and homeopathy. But in a crunch, they're not going to be there for me, so I have a regular M.D. who "understands" and appreciates my other treatments.

I called one when my two had lymphoma, I think it was something like Marsden animal clinic or something like that. I did a phone consult and he recommended and sent me a ton of things for a lot of money, and told me to stop their pred. I cut down on the pred with one cat, Josephine, and tried to give her the herbs. She crashed so badly I had to take her to the emergency room. I am all for alternative treatments and use them all the time. However, I would caution against doing a phone consult with this particular clinic, or at least not taking your cat off of anything that seems to be helping in order to do what this clinic recommends. I also recommend against starting a ton of herbs at the same time. I think adding one at a time is a better way to go.

Good evening, my helpful youngest cat-jelly roll's sister-Princess Seven Layer Eats a Lot deleted a whole bunch of mailing list emails I hadn't gone through yet plus some I was trying to keep. I lost the email from a list member who recommended her holistic vet in NJ--can't recall if it was someone on this list or the feline cancer one. The list member said the vet was available for phone consultation.
thank you,
Barbara and a big headache at midnight........
