Nina,
Unfortuanntly as I think you have figured out...Feral groups and vets who do low cost..or no cost stuff for ferals wont even touch a tame cat, and get pretty testy about someone saying I have a feral I trapped that needs to be spayed...the person brings it in and they can handle the cat somewhat..they give the cat back un touched....so even if any of them are even"hard strays, that are even somewhat touchable..feral groups wont help you ( as a whole)...As far as releasinng the mother....keep her...put her in a carrier m,abey after a few days...then put a trap or carrier out for the kittens just near her with some smelly stuff in it...they will walk right in....
As far as deterning the age....it may be kind of hard if they are all really really thin..but normally you say there is about 1 lb per month of kitten..so that may be somewhere to start. I think its great you are helping these guys out.,..I hope you can find homes for them...
