Thanks Nina
That very well could be it...Its hand written on a small label and I
think I remember the vet saying that it can be given to all animals and
the foster mom may have said you can get it in large bottles that they
us for horses...she lived on a horse ranch in NJ....
But what we have is in liquid form and the dosage is half an eye
dropper...
I will be going by my vets this afternoon and I will ask him again what
it is...

Hey
Trina & Tad,
I think you guys might be talking about Metronidazole (sp?), it's the
generic name, or visa versa, for Flagil. It's one of the first meds
often given for diarrhea when you can't figure out the cause. You have
to be able to "pill" them with it, because it tastes really, really
bad.

Hi Tad,
Thank you for giving me the info on that medicine. I will suggest to my
vet and see what happens. You are so lucky to have the room to separate
your living room. I don’t have a lot of house as it is so I’m trying to
figure something out in my office area. I did so want to have a sewing
corner but it looks like “The Fosters” will have to have that space.
(sigh)
You’re right! I wish I could win the lottery and make a cat sanctuary
for these poor babies.

Hi Trina
The diarrhea medicine came with the kittins from their foster mom...We
showed it to our vet and he said it was alright to use if it
worked...Its a perscription from a vet...mefronityoli...Its a hand
wriien lable and I am guessing at some of the letters but our vet
recognized it....
We had the same thing...there was no reason for the diarrhea but it
didn't go away until we gave the medicine and he didn't act sick...
What I did was use my living room which is on the south west corner of
the house with a closed in breeze way attached and I put up a temp.
wall with a door in it so I have to go through 2 doors to get into
their room from the rest of the house...I use the space between the 2
walls to store food and litter etc...
This is necessary becouse there are escape artists from both sides that
have to be put back often....
The room is 14 x 16 with 5 windows on to sides which makes it nice for
the cats but good thing we arn't big entertainers...most of our guests
sit at the kitchen table anyway....
Yes...If only we could win the lottery or a rich uncle make a donation
I would love to take in more but 28 has got to be my limit !!! Actually
the 7 in the living room have more space than the 21 in the main house
as most of them all want to be in the same room that we are in....Fun
fun....

Tad, I just wanted to say you are so wonderful to have so many FELV+
kitties. I hope you might be able to answer some questions about how
you
keep them separated. I have two fosters that are positive and my other
six
are not. So far they are kept in my bedroom but I would like to build
something that they can roam around in without being in contact with
the
rest of my herd.
What do you do about the diarrhea? One of my positives has had it for
almost two weeks. I took her to the vet and after a stool sample
analysis
they told me nothing was wrong. I am not impressed with the vets out
here
as it is, but that kind of did it for me. All they suggested was white
rice. I am feeding her a teaspoon of pure pumpkin and steamed white
rice
along with some cooked chicken for now. She seems to be getting a
little
better but I can't let her out of the bathroom just yet.
I would appreciate any recommendations you can offer. I wanted to find
a
home for the fosters but it doesn't look like that's going to happen
any
time soon. I just wish I had more time to spend with them.
