Dear Michelle:

Since the VO is still considered "experimental" and there haven't been a lot
of studies done and reported to draw upon, it's hard to tell just what effect
it might have on a FeLV+ kitty who may be crashing with lymphoma. If the VO
can boost the immune system enough, a kitty's body should be able to mount a
defense to just about whatever is assaulting it, in theory. We can only hope...

The bad news with getting the VO (besides its considerable cost) is that it
will take some time to go through the process...perhaps your vet could ask for
expedited service for a kitty who is critical? I guess he/she could certainly
try. Lymphoma is a notoriously fast developing cancer in many instances. It
was either pneumonia or lymphoma that took my sweet Angel Eyes out so quickly
this time last year...she crashed the day after Xmas and was gone in 14 days.

Have you heard of Dr. Martin Goldstein? He has written a book, The Nature of
Animal Healing. If you haven't already read it, I recommend it highly.
Martin and his brother Bob, who are both holistic vets and used to share a
practice, would get cancer patients referred to them that other vets had given
up on
as hopeless and they had an amazingly good number survive with treatement
which they developed, based on the pioneering work of a human
doctor-researcher,
Dr. Lawrence Burton. They call it Immuno-Augmentive Therapy and the gist of it
is that they do a BioNutritional Analysis taking a look at all blood values
and how they inter-relate with one another, and for cancer patients,
specifically, focussing on four proteins which were identified by Dr. Lawrence
as being
related to different aspects of immune function. Now using a computer to
assist in the analysis, they can identify which of those immuno-specific
proteins
are out of balance and then injections are given to bring those proteins back
into balance so that the immune system can function normally to fight off
whatever is assaulting the pet's system.

They see cancer as the ultimate expresion of ill health...not as an invading
disease entity to be wiped out by excising/killing the tumors (an almost the
host as well) with surgery, toxic chemotherapy or radiation. Cancer is,
rather, a symptom of a body that is so toxic and out of balance that the immune
system can't function and the cancer (which is basically the proliferation of
abnormal cells/tissues) is a manifestation of that. Besides supplementation
with
immuno-specific protein injections, they treat the patient nutritionally and
with various supplements to detoxify and boost immune function. It is not a
"one size fits all" kind of treatment, but individually designed for each
patient. He does say that there are instances when the patient is so
critically ill
that traditional chemotherapy or radiation may initially be necessary in
order to buy enough time for the holistic therapies to put the patient back
into a
self-sustaining balance. Some of the case studies in the book are truly
amazing!

If you want to find out more about Dr. Goldstein's work and theories, his
practice is located in South Salem, NY at 400 Smith Ridge Rd.; (914) 533-6066;
Fax (914) 533-6405. There is an 800 number for consulting vets to use
regarding
their Bio-Nutritional Analysis (800) 6700-0830 or access bnaweb.com

Dr. Bob Goldstein is now in business with his wife, Susan, and they are in
Westport, Conn. -- Northern Skies Consultants Bio Nutritional Diagnostics -- at
606 Post Road E.; (203) 222-0260, Fax (203) 2277-8094.
They founded a company called "Earth Animal" which offers a complete line of
all-natural products for dogs and cats, including organic foods, nutritional
supplements, treats, flea & tick prevention products, etc. The exclusive
products are available at their retail store (above address) as well as by mail
order.

Where are you located? There is a resource guide at the back of the book. I
wish I had a scanner, I could easily send that info to you via email;
otherwise I have to type it all in the hard way. I am in the process of getting
my
copy of this book rebound so that the pages will lie flat and I can xerox
sections of it to include in the adoption manuals I prepare for those who adopt
one
of my rescued kittys. If you can't find a copy of this wonderful book and
would like to have a copy, let me know. I think as long as I don't make copies
to
SELL I am not in violation of copyright laws.

We will all be praying and sending out healing vibes for Simon. Try to keep
him sourrounded with loving and positive energy...I know all too well how
tough that can be when a furbaby is crashing, but that is one of the best
things
you can do for him at this point. Take care...

Sally in San Jose
