I agree. If someone brings and arranges to pick up, that person has clearly
taken responsibility. Kerry

Well, if it's a stray that someone brings in and
is going to pick up, which many of us do - then
euthanizing is pretty bad, a big slap in the
face. I'd complain like crazy. Gloria

But just remember that it was one of these free
spay places that PTS one kitten becouse it was
FeLV+
before the person that brought them in was even

about the other 2 that I rescued and seems like
they are being unfriendly to me becouse I am
saving the lives at least for some time of these
2 positive kitties....

Were these cats brought in as pets or strays?
That makes a difference, in that if they are
brought in as strays, the hospital has more say
in whether their illness or trauma is too severe
to treat. With a pet, if the animal starts to
crash, they have to perform all possible
lifesaving techniques and cannot euthanize
without permission. But with a stray, there's no
one to ask. Now, it gets tricky when a rescue is
involved and funding things like the spay/neuter,
and tricky with chronic incurable illnesses when
the animal is presented as symptomatic. Some
special needs rescues won't even take a
symptomatic cat.

Everyone has to draw the line somewhere and it's
tough to quantify "suffering." That is what makes
euthanasia a controversial topic.

So, while it's fair to be wary, I would be
interested in having more facts before making any
conclusions. Also, I don't think it's fair to
lump all low-cost spay/neuter places into the
same category--if the one who euthanized the
kitten is really just a bad egg, it's still an
isolated case and does not necessarily reflect on
all the other unrelated clinics.
