Hi Belinda,

Thanks for that info!  Is this Yvonne's cat Jean-Luc?  I think I remember them from a CRF list!

I have a missing piece here; I know that Epogen was not indicated for Chappy (FeLV+) based on something missing in the bloodwork (thought it was the immature red blood cells, but then the Epogen would work, right?), but it was for Peep (CRF, FeLV-) because he did have some immature RBC's, but not enough.

Maybe it was that Chappy's bone marrow was also not producing something else he needed.

Hmm...I'll have to get my 'thinking cap' on and try and sort their cases out.  Maybe Tai-Tai's vet will shed some light!

Take care, Julie

    Hi Julie,
A girl on one of the cancer lists I belong to has a cat with lymphoma, he has been on procrit (epogen) for two years, and he is not producing any red cells, he has been on three different chemo protocals and has just recently come out of remission again, he's had lymphoma for just over 2 years.  Without the procrit he would have died long ago.  He gets it according to what his count is so his dosage and time between varies, but he has never developed antibodies and it has kept him alive.  Just wanted to let you know for future references.  I wrote to her today to clarify and make sure her kitty is not making his own red cells and here is her reply:

<<<< Her vet, or whoever she is getting her information from, is wrong.  The whole purpose of Epogen (also called procrit) is to replace the Eythropotein that the body cant make anymore.  If the body were still able to make them, an iron supplement would help, but its the Pettinic, or iron supplement that doesnt help if the body cant make the red blood cells.  Non-regenerative means they are not making retics, or immature red blood cells, and that is when Epogen or Procrit are required.  Jean-Luc was not able to make them at all, and therefore needed the help of Procrit.  Please also reassure her that he did fine for over two years on this drug. <<<<<<<

Jean-Luc is not positive for FeLV.
