I talked to Jan and although she doesn't know WHICH tests were done, she said Abs was tested for hyperthiroidism (she had a tumor in there that the radiation shrank) and sent to RADIOCAT for the treatments.  (Her vet didn't believe the two were really linked, but they couldn't come up with another answer for why the spraying suddenly stopped after the treatment.

Sorry I can't be any more specific.  Maybe the animal communicator would be your best first step.

I really wish you LUCK.  What you are going through is my WORST nightmare.  I'm allergic to my cats, and the urine smell just puts me over the edge breathing-wise.....I admire your loyality to your boy.  I'll prob. do the same if it ever comes to it....maybe lock the offender up in a show cage when I'm not home or something....its SO hard to risk that with someone you dearly love.

God Bless,

Tamara,

Do you know exactly what diagnostic tests are used to
evaluate a cat's thyroid and parathyroid?

This year when I had Dartagnan's diagnostic laboratory
urinalysis and urine culture performed I also had
blood values drawn up for an IFA and a "Complete
Chemistry Feline Health Panel."

These last two (2) tests were for my piece of mind. I
wanted to "rule out" other medical possibilities.

The IFA is an annual FeLV confirmation standard with
my kids. Every year all twelve (12) has it routinely
performed. All of them were negative including
Dartagnan's.

The "Complete Chemistry Feline Health Panel" is a
blood panel that consists of seven (7)
separate/different tests.

1.) Superchem
2.) Complete Blood Count (CBC)
3.) T4
4.) Feline Leukemia (FeLV) (Elisa)
5.) Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) (Elisa)
6.) Feline Corona virus (FCV)
7.) Toxoplasmosis (TOXO)

Is the T4 test what veterinarians use to check the
thyroid and parathyroid? I do not know for sure. I
though maybe you would?

Anyway, that test was included in the "Complete
Chemistry Feline Health Panel" and the values are
within normal range. They read:

T4 (RIA)

RESULTS: 1.56

REFERENCE RANGE: 0.8-4.0

UNITS: ug/dL

According to test results, everything is normal.
However, as previously stated, I do not know if the T4
is the correct test for checking the thyroid and
parathyroid.

If anyone within the group has the answer to this
question, please share. Otherwise I may have to have
Dartagnan retested for these two (2) things. Sigh. If
I am not testing for FeLV it is for everything else! I
KEEP those labs in business! :)

Thanks, Lora

Lora,

Dartagnan ! sounds like my aunts cat, Abigail. The
good news is, there is one thing you over looked (as
did your vet), but don't feel bad MOST (99.9%) do:

Although it really does sound like a behavior
problem, its likely NOT:

Take him back to the vet and have his thyroid /&
parathyroid checked! This letter could have been
written by my Aunt Jan, verbatum (with the exception
that she only has 2 cats).

Anyway, after all this (going on for 6 years!) her vet
FINALLY did a thyroid test. Now I don't remember
exactly which condition she had, but it turned out
that there were two ways to treat it, one with
shots.....didn't work in Jan's case, and the other was
with radiation treatment. It was expensive, BUT, like
you Jan didn't believe in PTS.

I think it cost her about $2000, but depending where
you live it might be less.

Abigail had to stay at the vet's for 3-4 days for
treatment. Then had to be isloated with her own litter
box for another 4 (?)- bodily fluids retain the
radiation and it could have been harmful to the other
cats for a few days after the treatment.

IT HAS BEEN A MODERN MIRACULE! Abs hasn't sprayed
in 4 years! NOT ONCE. And mind you she even lives
with another cat who bullies her.

Please ASK your vet, INSIST on the test. I BELIEVE
this will solve your problems.

God Bless & Good luck.
T
