Dear Friends,
Some news I'd rather not have had; the lab suspects that based on the needle biopsy of the mass in Lucky's mammary gland that she has cancer. She is going in Monday morning to have it removed and have the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes examined and biopsied. The whoe mass will then be sent to the lab for biopsy. Evidently, the needle biopsy can not determine the type of cancer. Based on what happens during surgery, we'll continue with chemo if it seems indicated.
Lucky has a cold; I found this mass when I was trying to examine her goopy eyes and she was trying to scooch away from me. She's on antibiotics and should be OK for surgery on Monday.
It's eerie because my mother-in-law died from cancer just before Christmas, I was diagnosed on the same date two years later, and Lucky is having her surgery one day before this yucky 'anniversary'. I am hoping that Lucky is indeed lucky and that I found this accidentally in time for her to have a good chance at recovery.
Wink is hyperthyroid; she is not presenting with all the typical symptoms. The excessive hunger is absolutely not there; she's never been a big eater anyway. She's fussy and won't eat the Tapazole chews that Tommy gobbles up and I don't think compounding to put on her ear is going to work; both her ears are crumpled from hematomas and there literally is no smooth surface left. I tried to give her a "pill pocket" to see if she'd be tempted by that, but no....what a little stinker! I guess it's going to have to be pills for her for a while. We wanted to send Tommy in January for the radioactive iodine treatment, but now with Lucky's surgery and aftercare, we won't be able to afford it. Hopefully Tommy and Wink can maintain well enough on Tapazole until we can come up with the money in the spring to send them to Radiocat; at least they can go together and be roomates!
So, that's my news. Wish it could have been better, but I guess I should be grateful that it wasn't worse.
Love, Julie
