Dear Jill: As vaccines challenge the immune system, most alternative vets do not recommend vaccines, period, for FeLV+ cats. You need to balance the risk factors, and the seriousness of the virus for which you are vaccinating. Of those viruses in a typical 3 or 4-way vaccine, only Panleukopenia is truly life-threatening though the URI viruses can cause death in very small kittens who do not receive timely treatment. Repeated and multi-valent vaccines are considered a threat to the immune system of even normal cats. If you would like more detailed and comprehensive info on the issue of vaccines, from a holistic standpoint, I would recommend the website Holisticat.com and also books by Dr. Martin Goldstein, The Nature of Animal Healing, and by Dr. Eugene Pitcairn, Natural Health for Dogs and Cats.
The best we can do for FeLV+ cats is to keep them away from exposure to pathogens, feed them the best most natural diet we can afford and provide immune support and keep stress in their life to a minimum. Sally in San Jose
