How right you are Jen!  I've been putting off buying a fancy toy I saw in Petsmart, because I've a strong feeling that taping one of those metallic swirly flower things that you stick on gift packages on to a Cat Charmer would be far more attractive to them. (A visiting friend did that years ago, and my neg cats completely adored it! It lasted for months and months, too)
I guess we should be thrilled there's actually one way in which we can easily---and without guilt!--- save a few $$$..... Kerry

Subject: OT: My reminder why I don't buy cat toys! :)

So I'm at the store this morning when I spotted a small berber fleece mouse in the pet section...now, I've gone off buying many cat toys for reasons I'm sure you all share (an expensive cat toy will be sitting untouched in the middle of the room, but in the meantime, a fight ensues over one of my hair ties)...but I thought, "Hey, they've got a toy similar to this one that I know at least a *few* of them will play with!"  So I went for it...Well, I get home, get the toy out of the package and toss it in front of one of the boys anticipating joy and rapture...nothing...I finally had to roll it in catnip just to get one of them moderately interested in it!  In the meantime, I open a bottle of milk and toss the ring on the floor (knowing in the back of my mind what would happen, but not willing to admit it just yet)...chaos ensues as Sleepypants flits it across the room and 6 cats give chase!  I try not to let on that I'm just the tiniest bit bitter...but just to add insult to injury, Boots (who never plays with cat toys) pulls out the *old* berber mouse and starts playing with it right in front of me!  Okay, okay...I get the point already!

Just thought I'd share my lesson from the cats this morning..."You don't need to spend money to have a good time!"  :)
