Jen,
I'm on 2 CRF groups and 2 HyperT groups, and nausea is a big problem with both illnesses. Stomach acid is a problem with CRFers and meds usually are the culprit with HyperT. In any case, most of us use Pepcid AC as part of our regular treatment plan. You can use 1/4 to 1/2 of a 10 mg tablet, once or twice a day. In our house, we use 1/2 twice a day. In cases where the kitty is hard to pill, or the nausea causes them to vomit the Pepcid, you can get it in an injectable (given subq).

I think the "key" is to give it regularly as a preventative. Once the stomach acid and nausea has already started, the Pepcid doesn't work as well to stop it. You also have to be careful to give it at least 1 hour before other meds, otherwise the Pepcid can interfere with the absorption of the other meds.

HTH,
Jo

Hi All!

I know I've seen things mentioned a million times on this list, but for the life of me...I can't remember any of them at the moment!  :)  What are some good anti-nauseas out there?  I believe slippery elm was one...but am not 100% sure...

Sleepypants has been nauseous the past few days (throwing up bile but no food...he hasn't been eating much)...I just took him to the vet's this morning and all his bloodwork came back great (even better than when he was there in October)...he doesn't have a fever...but they gave him fluids w/ some kind of anti-nausea med in it and the second we got home, he ate quite a bit...so I'm wondering if there is anything I can get him at home?  I've got to make a trip to the health food store anyway for dog food...so I can pick something up while I'm there!

Thanks!

Jen
