Dear all,
We have received the proofs for the book from Springer and it is time
to start proofreading. Each author needs to proofread their chapters
and let me know of any changes that need to be made.
The deadline for proofreading chapters (and submitting patches for any
changes that need to be made) is WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 19, so you have a
little more than one week to complete the proofreading.
Instructions for proofreading follow below.
1. Check the bzr commit log for the changes made to your chapter:
https://code.launchpad.net/~fenics-editors/fenics-book/main
I have started merging the new tex-files from Springer into the
repository and you will see them popping up on the above page one by
one.
As an example, the following changes were made to Chapter 1 (the
FEniCS tutorial by Langtangen). As you see, it's mostly linebreaks:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~fenics-editors/fenics-book/main/revision/891
Make note of any changes you disagree with and continue below.
2. Download the PDF file of the book from here:
http://launchpad.net/fenics-book/trunk/proofs/+download/fenics-book-2011-10-07-springer-proof.pdf
3. Proofread your chapter(s) and make note of any changes you wish to
make.
Pay particular attention to the code examples and make sure that they
run with the *very latest* version of the FEniCS software. One
important point to note is that the VariationalProblem class has been
removed. An overview of the changes that were made in the latest
release can be found on this page:
http://fenicsproject.org/releases/
We expect to create a new release (1.0-beta2) within 1-2 days. Any
important changes made will be detailed on that same page. I expect
that the changes made between beta1 and beta2 will not have an effect
on the code examples presented in the book, but make sure to check
before you submit your updated chapter.
Note that this is not the time to make big changes (other than those
absolutely necessary to update to the new FEniCS interface).
It is also *not* a good time to make any small "formatting fixes"
(like indentation of the tex files). It is important that the
changes made to the tex files can be easily spotted and not be
obscured.
4. Submit your changes to me in any format you find convenient (email,
patch, bzr merge request).
