Please ignore comments below---the problem appears to be VirtualBox hanging in 
the middle of the rather long compilation. I am using Ubuntu-12.04 running on 
Mac OS X 10.9.1. This may be an issue with Mac OS X 10.9.x and 
VirtualBox.Unfortunately it does not appear possible to restart the compilation 
where it stopped and a fresh start is required.
