An alternative is to use homebrew on macosx 10.9. I prefer since you can use 
system compiler and system python.

I have here some personal notes to install with homebrew the main dependencies:

I personally prefer to compile myself petsc, slepc and tao in my own  
PETSC_DIR, PETSC_ARCH, SLEPC_DIR, TAO_DIR.

Then I use dorsal just for dorsal, ffc, instant, ufl and the other FEniCs 
modules. The dorsal platform file I use can be found in the link above.
