Please try out the new Vagrant-based installation. First, install
Vagrant, either via your package manager of from vagrantup.com.
Then just follow these instructions:

$ git clone https://bitbucket.org/garth-wells/fenics-virtual
$ cd fenics-virtual/vagrant/fenics/
$ vagrant up
$ vagrant ssh

This should give you a terminal with a fully functioning FEniCS
installation.
