The problem is that you should compile fenics against petsc-3.5. I bet you have petsc-3.4.
I strongly suggest you to update the petsc.packgate to 3.5 and use the developement version of dolfin (set stable=false in dorsal.cfg). The problem is that dolfin-1.4 is not compatible to petsc-3.5.
