Briefly – with Johannes (significant) help – I compiled from source earlier
this year. I am also using Macports and had to use Macports to install a lot of
other dependencies (boost, mpi, etc). But it worked – and was not that easy
but doable. I have not upgraded to 1.4 yet…

I am trying to use the hashdist approach but for the past 10 days (along with
Ted Kord) have been stuck.

You cannot use the binaries and then use Fenics as a standalone (my experience
at least…) so yes, some compilation or the hashdist (maybe) is what you need.

It’s a great package and effort – well worth the effort to install. And
Johannes deserves some very special recognition and thanks for his support and
making the support available and trackable.

Subject: [External] [FEniCS-support] Yosemite, MacPorts, suggetions?

I’m now running OS X 10.10.1, and I would like to have fenics available for
some projects I have. At the same time, I have macports installed (with
python), for some other projects. It’s my understanding that this rules out
using the prepackaged binaries. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to
work around this scenario?
