Hi Anders, thank you for the suggestion, but that did not help, I still
get the same error message. Any other suggestions for how to install
the package?
Hi William,
See reply at end. I'm also on ubuntu 14.04, pulling fenics from the
fenics ppa at launchpad. Are you using that?

Try sudo apt-get -f install in a terminal window. It might help.

I'm an ubuntu newbie, so not sure what is going on, but I
installed ubuntu and now get this error message when I try to
install fenics. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I already
checked in the Software Center that each of the dependencies are
actually installed, but it doesn't seem to matter. Also tried
to install the fenics ppa but that didn't help
Thank you!
$ sudo apt-get install fenics

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you
have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the
unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been
created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
libcheese-gtk23 : Depends: libclutter-gtk-1.0.0 (>= 0.91.8)
but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libcogl15 (>= 1.15.8) but it is not going
to be installed
libcheese7 : Depends: libclutter-gst-2.0.0 (>=
0.10.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: gstreamer1.0-cutter but it is not going to
be installed
libclutter-1.0.0 : Depends libcogl-pango15 (>= 1.15.8) but it
is not going to be installed
Depends libcogl15 (>= 1.15.8) but it is
not going to be installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver:: Resolve generated breaks, this
may be caused by held packages.
See if adding the required packages to apt-get will resolve the
dependent problem. Like this
sudo apt-get install fenics gstreamer1.0-cutter libclutter-gst-2.0.0 ...
You can also try to use gui "synaptic" instead of apt-get which may let
you see better the dependency situation. Use "sudo apt-get install
synaptic" to install it if it's not there.
