Hi,
I'm Eugenio's mentor for GSOC and I developed the project for Octave last year,
receiving lotof contributions from the FEniCS community [1] (thanks again!!)
The interface works only with Octave and not with Matlab because we use the
Octave API. But as Octave is free it should be easy for your students to
install it and give it a try. Especially now that Octave hasa GUI, the
experience shouldn't be that different from MAtlab. [2]
