We are about 40% of the way through developing a wide-ranging package for
simulating geometrically non-linear thin structures. It is currently called
'fenics-shells'.

I was wondering what the official line is on using the FEniCS name?

Three applications currently use FEniCS 'trademarks', if you will;
DOLFWAVE, dolfin-adjoint and FEniCS Solid Mechanics. Most others do not.
The plus side in my view of using fenics-shells is that someone who types
fenics and shells in on Google is definitely going to get a link to the
project and the name and purpose is immediately clear. On the other hand I
appreciate that people have spend a lot of time developing the FEniCS name
and reputation and they might want to protect it.

I don't have a particular opinion either way.

Cheers,
