Actually I'm misleading you. The searches are very fast, ie, 0.1 sec or faster on my 30,000 doc index. By "slow query" I really mean my "#search_each do" which fetches each doc from the index and appends it to an xml or html response. This is clearly not a Ferret issue I think.
