She was there, exercising her free speech rights in a public space in what
I felt was a polite, respectful, and unobtrusive way. I argued with her
about it, not so much because I disagree but because I wanted to see if she
knew her stuff or was just hanging out in an echo canyon. She knew her
topic, knew the counter-arguments, and was genuine.

Given some of the other stuff we argue about at these meetings
(international intellectual property issues, for example?), it hardly seems
to fair to attempt to regulate one person's right to peaceably petition the
legislature, especially in a public venue.

I hope that while we might not agree on a particular solution to global
warming and while we might not agree that global warming is real, we can
agree that if somebody wants to gather signatures or engage in any other
political activity, they should be allowed to do so so long as it is
polite, respectful, and reasonably unobtrusive. I hope further that we
agree to disagree on what "polite", "respectful" and "reasonably
unobtrusive" mean. Let's face it: we don't agree on any of those
attributes now and have not for as long as I can remember.
