Not really. I've compiled and used my own mingw-w64 toolchain with MSYS for the 
longest time. I'm sure lots of people are doing the same, or using precompiled 
toolchains straight from mingw-w64's website.

People using MSYS doesn't necessarily mean they are also using the dead mingw32 
project.
