PR #25123 opened by ambitiuswisdom
URL: https://code.ffmpeg.org/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/pulls/25123
Patch URL: https://code.ffmpeg.org/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/pulls/25123.patch

## Summary

- Rename the AVS decoder long name to `Argonaut Games Creature Shock video`.
- Update the codec descriptor and codec list to use the same name.
- Keep the short name `avs`, codec ID, demuxer, and decoding behavior unchanged.

## Rationale

The `avs` decoder handles the video stream used by the Creature Shock
multimedia format. Its current long name, `AVS (Audio Video Standard) video`,
is misleading because it conflates this game format with Chinese AVS.

The AVS demuxer is already identified as `Argonaut Games Creature Shock`. Use
that identifying name for the decoder as well, with a `video` suffix to
distinguish the video decoder from the multimedia demuxer.

This changes only FFmpeg's descriptive name; it does not claim a particular
historical expansion of the game's `AVS` label.

Subject: [PATCH] avcodec/avs: disambiguate Creature Shock decoder name

The AVS decoder handles the video stream used by the Creature Shock multimedia
format, not the Chinese AVS codec. The current "Audio Video Standard" expansion
conflates the two.

Rename the decoder long name to "Argonaut Games Creature Shock video", using
the same identifying name as the existing demuxer while making clear that this
is the video decoder. Update the codec descriptor and codec list as well.

No short codec names, codec IDs, or decoding behavior are changed.
