Someone like me almost certain doesn't notice that it's crap. I'd even claim 
that most people won't notice.

I would suspect that some of the Android media server thingies may well have 
use for it.
And 2x slower kind of translates to "half the battery life" (well, not quite 
since it will probably go over wifi and that uses a lot of power, too).
But either way I don't exactly object to the removal as I don't use it, but you 
can't say it's better if in a (marginally relevant? but IMO definitely not 
irrelevant) objective measure it is 2x worse and there's no option to make it 
even come close.
