independent video streams, and thus it needs to store to 2 separte decoding

That looks somewhat hackish too.
Any other opinon about what's the prefered hack ?

BTW: now that I think about it, the U and V planes of the alpha video are 
supposed
to be all 0s, but they could be used as a covered channel ;-)
The current way of decoding the alpha video in a separate stream allows to 
uncover
this channel easily.
But anyway, this is not revelant to chose the best hack.
