fmm <[email protected]> added the comment: Though this is probably a lost cause, of about 201 .ASS files found randomly in Google from different places, 193 had a BOM, and the rest, which had been generated by very old software (Aegi pre-2.0), had an appropriately set "Encoding" field in the [Styles] section.
