I'm aware ffmpeg accepts uris and if the file was named "a://b.mp3" I would
understand the problem. Now it's impossible to have a file name that's begins
with a certain time, like 00:05:00.mpg, without specifying ./00:05:00.mpg. All
I'm saying is this might trip people up.

Feel free to close this if you deem this normal behavior.
