Wikipedia supports what I considered common usage:

  There are four main types of brackets:

    * round brackets or parentheses:  ( )
    * square brackets or box brackets:  [ ]
    * curly brackets or braces:  { }
    * angle brackets or chevrons:  < >

I don't remember {} being called anything but braces in a programming
context.  When I read the log message, I thought Ramiro was talking
about [].  Then I thought that this could not make sense and thought he
was referring to () instead...
