Someone who says {{{-y}}} without triple-checking the command line is
asking for trouble. {{{-y}}} does exactly as it is meant to, and adding a
special case for situations where the input and output file are the same
would be fragile (with some networked protocols, in=out can make sense;
with devices too) and solve only a very specific situation.
I suggest to close this as WONTFIX.
