I guess it was a Freetype issue after all. The
"[http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/freetype/freetype2.git/commit/?id=4b97ab98a8e90ae5403058b73c345974247bf01e
Fortify dllexport/dllimport attributes ]"-commit
[https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?53969#comment21 fixed it for me]. If it
does the same for you, James, then you can close this ticket as far as I'm
concerned.
