 Yes, the use case is totally valid - no doubt. It's also not that it's not
 possible - the big problem is that this task doesn't really fit well into
 ffmpeg's architecture.
 Have you tried libcaption? Maybe a standalone tool for this specific task
 is a better (and much cheaper) option...
