Replying to [comment:35 Devin Heitmueller]: > Zach, we've veered pretty far off topic for this ticket, but I agree with your argument. The fundamental problem lies in going back/forth between dedicated streams which contain captions (e.g. 608 MP4 tracks, teletext, SMPTE 436-1, SMPTE 2038, SCC, MCC, RCWT, SRT etc) versus cases where it's embedded in the video stream (e.g. MPEG-2 A/53 userdata, H.264/HEVC SEI, etc). We're actively discussing how to best tackle that problem. Yes, encoded captions data should be able to be passed and exist in its encoded state regardless of if the video is in the compressed or uncompressed domain and regardless of whether it is embedded in the video stream or a separate stream. Please let me know if there is a way to accelerate this development process. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/11462#comment:36> FFmpeg <https://ffmpeg.org> FFmpeg issue tracker
