If you know what you're doing and aware of the side effects, you can do
as you like. ;) You would surprise others with the MP4 file not being
an MP4 file though, if you happen to pass it on.

BTW, no need to rename in your special case, just do
$ ffmpeg [...] -f mov file.mp4
