While I'm thinking of it, I want to share something. My impression is that FFmpegers think in input-output terms. You might want to think in physical terms: What is physically on the disk/in the stream, instead. Yeah, yeah, I know everyone thinks they do that, but do you really? Clearly, some of the devs don't.
