Add to that the burnout of the knowledgeable people responding to, frankly, idiot questions. In the last few years there have been more than a few waves of "how do I do...?" questions which would be answered by reading the doc, don't contain useful debugging info, or were problems with sometimes years-old builds (all of which are covered in the list FAQ). Then there were the occasional "it doesn't work the way I want it to, FIX IT!!" emails. Fewer good answers leads to fewer people asking good questions - it's not surprising that the volume dropped.

There's also the overall shift from command-line to GUI-operated utilities; why try to figure out ffmpeg when handbrake will do the same thing and is easier for many people to use?

Later,

z!
