If bandwidth is the only issue, you could stream a stream. My camera is on one box and streams (via VLC) to a second box which has both ffmpeg and ffserver on it. I only have one client for the output of ffserver, though. But it is handling an incoming and an outgoing 19 MB/s stream without too many problems.
